What is baptism?

Baptism declares that you are a follower of Jesus Christ. It is a public confession of your faith in, and commitment to, Jesus Christ. It is the next step after salvation through repentance and faith and is an important part of your faith journey.

Jesus himself was baptized and he said 'Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19 (NLT)

When Jesus’s followers were baptized and they walked out into the Jordan river in front of all the people, they were making a bold public declaration that from now on they associated with the name and teachings of Jesus, that they were one of his.  That is why we don’t baptize babies at Max Life Church.  We wait until children are old enough to make a decision for themselves that they believe in Jesus, they believe he died to forgive them and they want to follow him for their life.  We also baptize adults believers.

Acts 2 38-39  … “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, and to your children, and even to the Gentiles—all who have been called by the Lord our God.
